Acupuncture is dated back over 3000 years. It's purpose is to restore your body's unique flow of balanced energy, and activate its own healing processes using very fine needles. It is very relaxing, and used for a wide range of health conditions from pain and injuries to fertility management and pregnancy health.
Auricular Acupuncture
The ear is a micro-system of the body, so points relating to every part of the body can be found there. Ear points can be used to treat a sore tooth, or lower back pain, or help to lower blood pressure. A well-known use of auricular acupuncture is the NADA protocol, which uses 5 points to treat addictions and has been very successful for tobacco and drug addictions. Another protocol is Battlefield Acupuncture, which works on chronic pain. Small needles are used to stimulate the ear points and ears seeds are used as a take-away treatment to prolong treatment effects. Ear seeds have an adhesive plaster with a tiny steel ball attached, to keep the ear points stimulated for between 5-7 days.
Moxabustion
Moxa can be a treatment in itself or used in conjunction with acupuncture. It is derived from the herb mugwort and comes in a few different forms. In stick form, Moxa is like a fragrant charcoal stick, and it is used to warm areas of the body or to bring Qi to a point or area. Moxa punk or unformed moxa, can be rolled into balls or cones and burned on needles or directly on the skin, or placed on a piece of ginger or some salt. Its effects on the body are calming, warming, blood building, and immunity enhancing.
Cupping
Cupping uses glass cups, and a flame is quickly thrust into the cup, and the cup then is placed on the body. A vacuum is created which pulls gently on the skin drawing stagnated blood to the skin’s surface like a bruise. New blood is then able to move into the area and begin healing the tissues. You may have bruises on your skin for up to a week after the treatment. This is an effective treatment for any musculoskeletal problems, and anywhere there is pain. It’s also great for colds and flu’s, respiratory diseases, digestive disorders, gynaecological disorders, insomnia, headache, tooth pain, facial paralysis and acute trigeminal neuralgia.
